JD-Next Test Format and Length
The JD-Next Test is timed and includes essay and multiple-choice sections. The total combined time for the JD-Next Test (essay and multiple-choice) is 4 hours, which includes a 10-minute break midway through the test.
The essay will be a timed section of 30 minutes. The essay is not graded but will be used as a timed, secured writing sample in law school applications.
The multiple-choice section includes 80 questions across 15 topics. There are 60 graded questions, plus 20 ungraded questions that allow JD-Next to validate new test questions for future use. The test taker will not be aware of which questions are graded or ungraded. Test takers will have 200 minutes to complete the multiple-choice questions.
Device Specifications and System Requirements:
The JD-Next test is delivered remotely using Territorium’s EdTest.ai assessment platform.
The test requires LockDown Browser. LockDown Browser is a client application that is installed to a local computer.
System Requirements for LockDown Browser:
Operating System:
- Windows: 10 & 11 (Important: “S mode” and “SE” are not compatible)
- Mac: MacOS 10.15 to 14.0+.

Note about Chromebook Support: It is not recommended to use Chromebook for the JD-Next test if you have an alternative option from the supported list above. If you do not have an alternative, please review the following additional specifications and recommendations for Chromebooks.
LockDown Browser for Chromebook minimally requires the version of ChromeOS that Google makes available via their Long Term Support (LTS) channel. For more information, visit: Long Term Support Channel Update for ChromeOS.
Respondus recommends keeping Chromebooks updated to the most recent version that is available via Google’s ChromeOS “Stable” channel: Stable Channel Update for ChromeOS / ChromeOS FlexS.
Memory:
Windows: 2 GB RAM - 4 GB if using webcam
Mac: 2 GB RAM - 4 GB if using webcam
Hard Disk Space
Windows: 200 MB of free hard disk space
Mac: 200 MB of free hard disk space

Additional System Requirements for JD-Next Test:
JD-Next test takers will need to use their computer’s camera and microphone to set up the online, live remote-proctored session. All timing of the test will be implemented within the Territorium EdTest.ai assessment interface.
AI Proctoring:
AI proctoring will be used to monitor the test taker and the visible test area for anomalies. Anomalies may trigger the test to be paused and reviewed by a live proctor, who may determine to terminate the test based on video review of the anomaly. This time will count toward the 4-hour time limit.
